Today, the British Libyan Business Association (BLBA) had the opportunity to visit Zliten and meet with the Zliten Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture, as well as prominent local businesspeople. I must admit that Zliten was off my radar until now, but I was completely surprised by what I saw during our visit. It’s hard to believe that a city of this size could be playing in the Champions League of business, but Zliten is a prime example of such achievements being possible for a small city. From its impressive cement, steel and PVC manufacturing to its leading private banks and enthusiastic business community, Zliten has all the makings of a significant player in the region. We also discussed other sectors, including Education, Healthcare, and Pharmaceuticals, and the business community expressed their eagerness to work with British companies in all these areas.
As we explored the city and met with local business leaders and organisations, it became clear that Zliten is a hidden gem in the region with so much to offer UK businesses. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit this thriving business hub and learn more about its unique strengths and potential for substantial growth. During our visit, we also had the chance to explore two of the city’s private banks, the Libyan Islamic Bank and the Yaqeen Bank. I was impressed by the professionalism of the banks and that the Zliten branches rank among the top three for financial business transactions in Libya.
Overall, our visit to Zliten was eye-opening, and we are excited about the many opportunities available for British businesses in this vibrant city.
